  • Hypertension is a risk factor and a complication of CKD
  • Risk factors of CKD
    • Age, sex, race (blacks), smoking, hypercholesterolemia, duration of hypertension, low birth weight, and preexisting renal injury
    • Malignant hypertension
      • Scleroderma, cocaine
      • Fibrinoid necrosis of small blood vessels (arterioles and glomeruli), thrombotic microangiography, aGN, ARF
    • Hypertensive emergency
      • Renal failure, chest pain, papilledema
  • Treatment
    • Keep BP<130/80 mmHg
    • ACEI or ARB
    • Diuretics
